Nancy O'Dell started her career in broadcasting as an anchor at WPDE-TV, Myrtle Beach South Carolina. O'Dell later became an anchor for morning news at WCBD TV and also as an investigative reporter. O'Dell's articles in Charleston, about how the Charleston police dealt with DUI cases with care, led to an inquiry by State Law Enforcement Division. The inquiry led to a stronger instruction for the state's authorities. According to the Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell the Best Report of the year award for the entire South Carolina media. O'Dell was then employed by the Miami-based NBC station WTVJ-TV as a investigative reporter, before she joined Access Hollywood in the role as a weekend anchor. O'Dell, as well as being the anchor of Access Hollywood, also appears on NBC News Today as well Dateline NBC.
